Vimeo – The Canadian Rockies – A Perfect Day In Nature

from Plus 11 months ago not yet rated

A fun short filmed in the breathtaking Canadian Rockies. The film includes footage of wildlife and various places of interest visitors come to see.

Things I’ve learned while filming this short:
Use *only* a high-quality Vari or single ND filter on long lenses to get sharper images. Thanks Preston and Steve.
A viewfinder on the LCD screen helps a lot in a bright daylight – and makes a HUGE difference to have it permanently clipped ON catching wildlife footage as you go.
Get into a habit of using an external mic WITH a wind muff for capturing better ambient sounds.
Need to work more on faster and more accurate focusing technique – especially outdoors with fassssst wildlife.
Patience and more practice.
Be better prepared for mosquitoes while taking macro footage.
Time flies while wearing rubber boots and filming for hours in a cold mountain stream : ).

Summer – Oregon

from Plus 9 months ago not yet rated

Originally shot for the Vimeo Weekend Project, “Your Summer So Far”. I decided I had way too much content for the one minute length limit so I decided to cut together an extended version. This was shot in the Deschutes National Forest along the Metolius River, the Mt. Hood National Forest along Timothy Lake and Trillium Lake and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest near Forlorn Lakes in Washington. (Not entirely in Oregon I know, but as Portlanders we considered the beauty of Washington our home as well.)

Peonies of Luoyang

Tobias Lars·131 videos

Luoyang is located in the west of Henan Province (Central of China).
This city was the capital of China for 9 dynasties. But during the Tang Dynasty (with Xi’an as the capital), Luoyang became the “home of peonies”.
Luoyang Peony Festival is very popular among Chinese tourists and peony enthusiasts the world over. Each year from mid-April to mid-May, hundreds of species of peonies are in full bloom. During the peony fair, gardens are full with colorful flowers.

Weather Timelapse

I shot this timelapse sequence mostly over the last few months in the Central North Island of New Zealand. This in an attempt to capture the essence of the often unpredictable New Zealand weather. The weather around here seems to have a mind of it’s own as storm fronts race across the land and of the countless occasions I would watch and then chase the light to try and capture the type of landscapes I was after I would so often be beaten into submission with the best moments slipping by as I frantically set up my gear.

Shot on Canon 5D Mark II, motion control achieved with Dynamic Perception Stage Zero dolly.

Music: “Dreams Together” by Andrew Britton & David Goldsmith (UPPM), licensed through APPRA New Zealand.

Vimeo – Monet’s Garden

from 2 years ago /

Monets Garden, around the big house, where the famous artist lived the last half of his life, is a beautiful place. You can’t help falling in love with that place.  Monet was a famous artist already when he lived, and he earned good ´money. He hired 7 gardeners to look after his garden!  The house and garden is placed in a small town Giverny 90 km. west of Paris and is easy to reach. You can use your camera and tripod without problems.  I am glad to say thank you to andrzej olesiak for ideas and inspiration.  The musik is the same as in my film about Boller Castle; simply because in my ears it is the perfect music to this film. Furthermore Debussy lived at the same time as Monet, and I wonder if they did not meet?

My Country – My Time – Timelapse Project

Two months ago we set out for a weeklong trip to Yosemite National Park. Inspired by Sheldon Neill, Colin Delehanty (Yosemite) and naturally Tom Lowe (TimeScapes), I got hold of a Stage Zero Timelapse Dolly so I could try to take a few time-lapse shots of the breathtaking landscape in the park. I soon discovered that one week is not nearly enough time for a meaningful project and therefore decided to make my time-lapse debut at home in the Ore Mountains in the Czech Republic, in the very heart of Europe.

Nearly every day for the entire summer I set off with my camera to the local mountains to try to capture moments that we don’t ordinarily perceive as anything special, but which are in their very essence quite exceptional.
