Have you noticed that many of us tend to get hung up on what is going wrong in society today?  We get upset about laws we don’t like, we worry about what we don’t have and we get upset over life’s minor inconveniences. We complain about our governments, our taxes and our jobs.  We overlook the many reasons why today is the very best time to be alive in all of human history.

Below are a just a few of the reasons why today is arguably the best time to be alive.  Though people still struggle, we have made a lot of improvements and overcome a lot of global issues.  To be alive today is far easier for the average person than it was to be alive just a few decades ago.

Even when things are rough, uncomfortable or displeasing, the simple fact that we are alive right now is a tremendous reason to be grateful in life.  Here’s why:

1. There was a time before Google when information was hard to find.

Today, you can find the answer to just about any question you have quickly and easily.  But before the days of Google and Yahoo, if you hadn’t learned it on your own or knew someone who had, you were pretty much out of luck.  We often take this immense gift for granted.

Knowledge is power, and many people today can access that power simply by switching on their laptops or reaching into their pockets and pulling out their smart phones.

2. There was a time where torture and capital punishments were common (and public) occurrences.

Can you imagine living through the reign of terror during the French Revolution, where thousands of people were put to death via guillotine? Can you imagine witnessing a public hanging first hand as a child? I’d continue on with examples, but it’s just too disturbing for me to spend more time on this subject.

Though we aren’t a completely “non-violent” species, we have come a long way.

3. There was a time where slavery and subjugation were considered socially acceptable.

There have been many people in history who spent their entire lives as someone else’s property, or who were been captured and held in captivity.

Most people today enjoy a greater degree of freedom than many did in the past.  While we might still feel trapped at times by the systems we live in, we still have far greater independence than many who have come before us.

4. There was a time where travel was dangerous and extremely challenging.

Today, we have many forms of transportation that make travel far easier and quicker than it was in the past.  We travel in cars and on airplanes and trains rather than by foot, horseback or carriage.

Travel has become so easy  that many of us now have the opportunity to travel just for fun, rather than out of necessity.  Travel that used to take a lifetime now only takes hours.

5. There was a time when outbreaks of illness were extremely common.

In the Middle Ages, for example, at least a third of the European population was wiped out by the plague, and it was common to lose one’s entire family to illness.  To be sure, people still get sick,  but our exposure to deadly disease has been drastically reduced.

These are just a few reasons why now is the best time to be alive in human history. Although some of these items aren’t particularly happy things to think about, hopefully they do offer a little bit of perspective.

As a species, we have come a very long way, and we have created a pretty awesome improvement in our average standard of living.  It would be hard to imagine living in an earlier time in human history by today’s standards.

Life will never be “perfect.”  It is always evolving, and there will always be something greater that we are reaching for.  However, we’ve already created quite a lot to be proud of! When life’s got us down, remembering those who have come before us can help us to stay positive and optimistic about where we are today.

When we move on the path of least resistance, we open ourselves up to greater abundance and easier manifestation.  This is why we all know people who just “have all the luck” and seem to magically get what they want out of life without having to try too hard.  People who float along the path of least resistance simply allow their dreams to be brought to them.  When they have a goal they usually stay relaxed about how they are going to achieve it.

Getting on the path to least resistance can be a little tricky for some of us, and this is because many of us believe that we have to figure out the way to our goals.  We think it is our job to identify every step and obstacle up front so we can be “prepared.”  We want to anticipate the traffic, the expenses or how other people are going to react.

However, this is a flawed strategy because we simply are not equipped to see the easiest and fastest route to where we want to go. The truth is, there could be an infinite number of problems and opportunities on the way to our goals that are simply unimaginable from where we stand.  So when we try to figure out the exact path we waste a lot of time and energy because we focus on a lot of things that might end up being completely irrelevant.

For example, perhaps we really want to get a promotion.  So, instead of just putting our wish out there and going with the flow we decide to show up to work earlier, work harder and cozy up to the boss.  We do these things because we believe they’ve worked for others before, and we assume this is the best path to promotion. 

Unfortunately, however, the easiest path to promotion is unknown.  Maybe there’s an unposted position that’s coming available, but you’ll hear about it while you’re out at a party.  Maybe you’ll impress the right person while having a laugh over lunch.  Maybe your boss has a “work smart not hard” philosophy and taking on more work simply doesn’t impress him or her. The best path for you is very likely down a road you haven’t even imagined.

Getting on the path of least resistance requires that we relax and hand over control to the universe. It requires us to understand that forcing things into place is a waste of time and it is more effective to let the universe take care of the planning. Though our vision and understanding is limited to where we stand, the universe has infinite vision and can see every possible obstacle and opportunity.  It is a much better captain for the ship.

So are you taking the path of least resistance?  Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself to determine if you are relaxed and on the path of least resistance or if you are holding on a little too tight.

The Path of Least Resistance: Quick Questions

1. Is it okay if your schedule changes throughout the day, or do you hold fast to your original plans?

2. When you are interrupted or cut off by people or events (like getting stuck in slow traffic) do you deal with the interruption calmly (without getting stressed out) or do you get mad?

3. When thinking about your goal, do you focus mostly on what you can do in the here and now or are you mostly thinking five steps head?

4. Would you generally say that you are relaxed and believe everything will work out for you, or are you more of a chronic worrier?

If you said “yes” more to the first part of each question, you likely spend a lot of time on the path of least resistance.  If, however you said “yes” mostly to the second part of each question, you are probably working too damn hard to reach your goals!

So, what do you do if you want to spend more time on the path of least resistance?  The key is to spend more time in the present moment.

When we find ourselves thinking too many steps ahead or worrying about things that haven’t yet come to pass, we are spending too much time in the future, rather than the present.  This is an indication that we are trying to figure out the route we need to get on, rather than allowing the universe to put us on the path.

The thing about the path of least resistance is that it is always unfolding now, and it can only be seen in the present.  So taking a deep breath and allowing your awareness to come back to the present moment is a great way to direct yourself back onto the path.

While awareness and deep breathing are great things to do to get back on the path of least resistance,  for many of us, forward thinking is so engrained that it has become a hard habit to break.  For this reason, if you find that staying in the present moment is a challenge, it’s also a great idea to add meditation into your daily routine.

Meditation is highly advised for those of us who are a little stressed out and work too hard because it helps to train our minds back into the present moment.  Often we have become so inundated with anxious thoughts that we have become lost in our own minds and unable to focus on the here and now.  Daily meditation is great “brain training” to help clear the clutter and relearn how to focus our attention into the now.

Work on placing your awareness back in the here and now to guide yourself onto the path of least resistance.  By trusting in the universe’s ability to show you the way you will waste less effort, encounter less frustration and get where you want to go quicker.   Instead of swimming against the current to reach your dreams,  surrendering to the present moment will allow the universe to carry you downstream.

At our core, all we are made up of is energy, and our vibration is simply the movement of our energy through space.  Our vibrations are very important because they are responsible for how our lives unfold.  Through the Law of Attraction, we create our entire lives based on our vibrations.  In the simplest terms, when we have a high vibration we create more of what we want in life.  When our energy is low, we create more of what we don’t want.

It’s good to remember our vibrations are always changing across time, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with having a low vibration, because low vibrations do serve a valuable function!   Low vibrations provide signals to us that our thinking and behaviors are headed in a direction we don’t want to go, and these signals can be very useful if we are aware of them.

However, it’s also useful to know when you have a high vibration, so you can celebrate the moment and make it last a little longer!

So, here are twelve manifestations of a high vibration.  Have any of these things happened to you lately?

1. Being excited to wake up and start your day

When we are running at a high vibration life feels exciting.  If you leap out of bed in the morning ready to tackle the day, you can bet you are running on a high vibrational frequency.

2. Good health

Our bodies are physical manifestations of our vibrations.  High quality energy results in a high functioning body, and this reduces and even eliminates injury and illness.

3. Feeling strong

When our energy is high we will feel as if we can move mountains.  Feats that usually feel too challenging suddenly feel possible.

4. Being able to communicate clearly and effectively

When our vibration is moving quickly our words flow easily and effortlessly.  We can communicate with others in a way that is understood, without tripping over our words or sticking a foot in our mouths.

5. Financial prosperity

With good energy, abundance moves into our lives easily.  In times like these we are more likely to win prizes, receive unexpected checks in the mail or even find forgotten money in our laundry.

6. Pleasant interactions with other people

All things are easier when we have a high vibration, including our relationships.  In high times, other people will treat you with kindness and respect, even if your interactions with them are ordinarily strained.

7. Going with the flow

A high vibration will keep you in an optimal state of productivity, flowing easily from one movement to the next.  You will feel perfectly balanced, neither overwhelmed nor bored. You will often feel like you are “in the zone.”

8. Time speeds up

When you are going with the flow, time passes quickly.  As we always say, time flies when you’re having fun, and when you’re having fun you have a high vibration.

Many people have noticed and remarked that time seems to be speeding up the older we get. Some believe worldwide time acceleration is occurring because the energy of the entire planet is raising.  This might be possible, as more and more people are becoming aware of the power of positive thinking and applying it to their lives.

9. Expressing kindness and love automatically

Those who have a high vibration are more likely to radiate love and light on others. They naturally share more smiles, hugs and acts of kindness, without strain or effort.

10. Having intuitive or “psychic” moments

When we are in a high energy state we receive information in ways beyond our five senses.  For example, we may suddenly just know the answer to a question or get a vision of what’s to come.  A high vibration puts us in a greater state of knowing and understanding.

11. Feeling happiness, joy or elation

Not only do these emotions feel good, but they are also strong indications you are creating a positive future for yourself!  They are also among the easiest signs of a high vibration to identify, if we pay attention to them.

12. Looking your best

Our energy affects our appearance and how we care for ourselves.  When we are feeling our best our skin glows a little more, our hair shines a little brighter and we are more likely to pick out a flattering outfit.

If you’re exhibiting signs of a high vibration right now, congratulations!  Keep doing what you’re doing, because you are moving in the direction of the things you want.

However, if your vibration isn’t as high as you’d like it to be, no worries! Remember, your energy is  constantly fluctuating on the vibrational scale, and you can always consciously adjust the direction you are headed in.

Another thing to remember is that a lower vibration is always the result of a negative thought or belief.  A little bit of personal reflection in down times can help us identify the cause of any lower vibrational energy.  Are we obsessing about our ex? Are we angry at our boss? Are we putting off something we know we really want to do?  A little introspection can help us identify any negative thoughts or limiting beliefs holding us back from a high vibration.

Beyond self-reflection, if you’d like to raise your vibration, it’s also very beneficial to act as if your vibration is already high. So spread a little love, find balance in your work or put on your best outfit.  By mimicking the effects of a high vibration, you can actually trick yourself into raising your vibration to a more optimal level.
