Spiritual bypassing (or whitewashing) is the act of using spiritual beliefs to avoid facing or healing one’s painful feelings, unresolved wounds and unmet needs. It is a state of avoidance. Because it is a state of avoidance, it is a state of resistance. I personally, consider Spiritual bypassing to be the shadow side of spirituality.
The spiritual beliefs of any spiritual tradition, be it Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, New Age, Islamic, or even Self Help, can provide ample justification for living in a state of inauthenticity. They can all provide justification for avoiding the unwanted aspects of one’s own feelings and state of being in favor of what is considered to be “a more enlightened state”. In this episode, Teal Swan gives examples of spiritual bypassing and suggests ways that we can avoid doing it.

  1. I don’t seriously treatment how or when i get the Letters in the Mail. Every time it arrives, it feels like a letter should be. It’s suddenly there in my mail box a single day. A awesome, tangible surprise. I’m for you doing whatever you want when you send it. Mix it up for the people who help get it sent out. Include crumbs from your lunch. Coffee stains. Whatever. Keep the tedious naturel of getting letters out to a minimum by doing whatever you feel like that day. The arrival of the letter and the words of your author inside are what matters. Personally, what I like greatest about The Rumpus is that I never ever understand what I’ll study that day. Or if there isn’t really one which day, maybe it’s because Stephen couldn’t locate anything to say or there was also much planning on.

  3. Mr. Elliott,Letters via USPS sounds so novel in the internet age even if it is 1 letter produced for many, nevertheless it doesn’t sound like a pen-pal relationship. Can an individual write again towards the author of your letter?
